Spa Leak Detection
A spa can leak through its shell, its jets and fittings, or the plumbing beneath it. When a spa is attached to a pool, the first question is whether it is leaking at all or simply draining into the pool. Answering that comes before any repair is chosen. We find leaks in spas on Florida’s Space Coast and in Central Florida.
Finding where the spa is losing water
We isolate the spa’s lines and test them on their own, then test the shell and the fittings directly. A spa has its own returns, jets, light and plumbing beneath its shell, and any of them can be the one losing water.
On a shared pool and spa system, the spa sits higher, and a check valve keeps it from draining into the pool when the pump stops. If that valve sticks open, the spa empties into the pool and the pool level rises. That is a valve problem, not a leak. If the spa loses water while the pool level holds steady, the spa has a leak of its own.
Finding the leak first is what decides the repair. We repair the spa leaks we find, and the repair starts where the leak actually is.

- Plumbing lines
- The lines beneath the spa. They are isolated and tested on their own, so a sound line is ruled out rather than dug up.
- Jets and fittings
- Jets, returns and the light: anywhere something passes through the shell.
- Shell
- Cracks in the spa’s shell, tested directly once the plumbing has been ruled in or out.
- Draining into the pool
- A check valve that sticks open lets the spa empty into the pool. The spa drops and the pool rises, and that is a valve problem rather than a leak.

Could my spa be draining into the pool rather than leaking?

How do you tell whether the spa or the pool is leaking?
By testing them separately. When the two share equipment, the water loss can show up in whichever one is easier to see, so the obvious answer is not always the right one.
How do you find a leak in the plumbing beneath a spa?
Each of the spa’s lines is isolated and tested on its own. A line that holds pressure is ruled out, and a line that will not is the one with the problem. If the leak is visibly at the shell or a fitting, there is no need to test the plumbing.
How soon can you come out?
Leak detection visits are typically scheduled within the same week, depending on our schedule. If the spa cannot wait, an emergency leak detection visit can be arranged for a $100 emergency fee.
Do I need to be home during the visit?
